We do not have to be the best. We just have to give our best, and that is enough.
Having a seat on a MRT is a blessing, especially when it is a long journey ahead. Yet, being able to offer it up to someone else and make the day for him or her, makes it even more memorable! 4 kids in K2 with two preschool teachers came up onto the train today and immediately another gentleman and I got up to offer them our seats. Somehow the four K2 kids squeezed into the two seats joyfully. Their preschool teachers instructed them to thank us and they did so willingly , in unison. A good day is when we give our best, and that is enough. Every bit counts. One can never live to the full unless we are kind and generous at heart.
I remember the experience that I had when someone cut my queue at a buffet lunch. It was a very minor issue but at that split second, I felt that I was 'entitled' to be in the queue and that the older lady should go back into the queue just like everyone else. Yes, that thought lasted for a split second which disappeared when I saw that she was a lady perhaps in her 60-70s and she was helping her husband, an elderly man to procure food for lunch. Well, even though she came in from the opposite direction and started to take the dishes, I moved aside so that she can obtain the dishes that she wanted to. Looking back, small things in life speaks volumes and sometimes these small acts could change and bring our community closer together! Life is simple. In all we do, there will be failures and successes. We just have to focus on the successes and work towards that direction.
I remember once, I was brought a patient who had fainted while queuing for food at the hawker stall. She was a young woman in her 20s and two female passer bys who spotted her fainting have reached out to avail their time to help bring her to the nearest clinic. Coincidentally I was stationed there and attended to her immediately. Thankfully, she was brought in promptly with the help of the two good samaritans. Her blood pressure was low and to be corrected. Let us continue to contribute and build a community where we look out for one another. As we focus on these good things, even if there are times where we might feel discouraged, we can still remember these good moments and continue positively. |
