It was after lunch and I had brought along an umbrella just in case it rained. As I was walking back from Clementi I noticed a middle aged lady who was supported to a large extent by her helper. Her body was contorted in a way that matched her facial grimace. She was in pain.
I went over and asked her what was bothering her and what i could do to help. She told me that she had sprained her knee and was unable to bear her weight well, as such, she was clutching on to her helper for support. She mentioned that if she could just get to the bus stop, she would be fine. Without much hesitation, I decided to pass my umbrella to her and gestured that she can use it as a form of support. Incidentally, I like to fit all my umbrellas with a rubber stopper such that they can double up as a form of support for walking. What a timely coincidence! After she managed to get on using the umbrella, I told her that she could keep and use the umbrella as it would help her a lot more at this point of time. She thanked me and we bid each other farewell. Giving of ourselves to others brings the warmest kind of feeling to your heart! Let us continue to pour out our love for others in our community!

Today my wife and I were around the corner off the market and we chanced upon a small booth where we were given a coupon earlier when we purchased our meals. The coupon allowed us to play a game of spin the wheel.
While we were queueing we were approached by a domestic helper who asked where she would be able to get the coupon as the elderly lady in the wheelchair that she was helping was keen to have a go at the lucky spin. We told her how we got the coupon where it was through a purchase of our meals earlier. A thought struck us and we decided to give them the coupon in our hands. They thanked us and proceeded to the queue. We were midway in the queue when this happened. What was more amazing is after we have exited from the queue that people queueing behind us are sure that the elderly lady and her domestic helper to the space that we have been queueing at. This was a heartwarming sight to behold. What is more is that the people right behind me were just young children. Young children but big in their hearts. Eventually the elderly lady got two packets of nutri milk as a prize! She was happy and we were happy for her! An amazing day of love in action in the community! |
