The incident happened several years ago, but it is deeply engraved in my mind. It was the evening peak hour and a young man, around 30, in office attire, was on the MRT with his young daughter — about three — and a pram. When my husband and I boarded at Clarke Quay, the train was getting crowded. What the man did next was spectacular: he put his sleepy daughter in the pram, gave her a milk bottle, and told her to sleep — then offered one of us the seat and continued his study. How many times have we seen people "chope" seats they do not need? He had so many things to juggle, yet he set a great example for his daughter. His act of kindness gives us hope for the future of mankind.
