We were travelling from London paddington to Oxford. At London paddington, we needed to walk a distance and climb some stairs from the underground tube station to the train station that will then bring us on a 1.5 hour journey to Oxford. It was during the morning rush hour and the place was congested with human traffic. I was having difficulty managing a luggage bag and another small hand-carry bag. Along the flight of stairs, there were two gentlemen who offered me help with my heavy luggage. One asked "Do you need help with the luggage?". A special note was that he had white hair and I supposed he was in his 50-60s, yet he looks fitter than me! I replied "I can manage, thank you!" or so I believed haha, hoping to be independent! Another said "Can you manage?", and he literally rendered me a helping hand, wishing to take over the heavy luggage from me, helping me up this seemingly long flight of stairs that is so daunting. On hindsight, my bag weighed 17 kg when I checked it in during departure from London. Iappreciated their kind thoughts and thanked them. It was delightful to have came across this stairway of kindness in London :) .Eventually , we reached our destination with nothing less than a warm feeling in our hearts from the strangers who extended a helping hand to tourists in their land. Let us also do likewise to fellow tourists who come to Singapore!

We bought a 10 piece chicken bucket for dinner that comes with 4 sides, of which we had 2 corns, 1 coleslaw and 1 pack of fries. After the many days of eating chips in London, we thought we could give it a miss this meal. Just as we were leaving the KFC premise, we overhead a group of teenagers who were chatting happily and going to order more nuggets and chips. I suggested to hubby, "shall we give them the fries?" And he went over to pass them this freshly cooked warm fries. The group of teenagers were elated! One of them said: "Oh wow thank you very much! Oh Kayleigh no need to get the chips, someone gave us a pack!" We smiled and headed back to our hotel! Haha feeling happy from giving and also joyful from their smiles :) Posted by Raine We were on an air flight to London when we heard an announcement over the airplane paging for any doctor who is on board to come forth and render help as there was a patient in need. Lorraine and I have both heard of incidents like this happening to some of our colleagues but never did we imagine ourselves to be caught in such a situation.
Immediately, I stopped the film that I was halfway into and stepped forth to meet up with one of the air stewardess. She took a photo of my practicing licence and proceeded to bring us to the patient in need. We were led by the air stewardess to the back of the plane and ascended the stairs. Finally, we met the patient and thankfully, he was already tended to by another doctor who had arrived earlier. Thereafter when we touched down, we were glad to know from the air stewardess that the patient 'symptoms have improved and will be further tended to by the medical team at the London. It was a warm feeling to know that like minded individuals are around to offer a helping hand when there is a person in need. Step up and use what we have learnt to better the community! All of us can play a part! |
