Kindness Without Words

How many of us have been to a foreign country where we are unable to speak in their language? I bet a large number of us! Well, kindness can be shown without words and that is exactly what happened today!

My wife and I were in the cold and entered a restaurant. We proceeded to order food but since we were unable to speak the language, we did it via Google translate! After ordering a tofu hotpot, grilled pork and fried rice, the restaurant staff came back to us and we spent a good deal of time conversing via Google translate. Essentially she saw that we have over ordered as the grilled pork alone was in itself sufficient to feed the two of us. She took the extra step no matter the language barrier, to inform us to reconsider our order. In the end we stuck to just rice and the tofu hotpot.

When we were served the appetisers and the rice, we were pleasantly surprised when the owner of the restaurant came up handing us a small portion of grilled pork! Wow, this small act of love touched us! We had a fantastic time and this was indeed one of the best meals!

After dinner, Lorraine and I went up to the staff of the restaurant to thank them, via google translate, that the food was sumptuous and we had a very good time. The staff voiced back thank you and handed us some coffee sweets before we left.

Just as we stepped out of the restaurant, we were met with a heavy rain! And in this cold weather! Oh my, our hotel was probably 800m away! Just as we started to try to brave the rain, the owners of the restaurant had closed up the restaurant as we were the last customers. Without hesitation, he gestured to us to come along in his van and he will give us a lift! We boarded his mini van along with his staff and got a lift back to the hotel!

Wow, indeed, kindness can be shown without words! Likewise, let us do our part for the foreigners in our midst!
