We do not have to be the best. We just have to give our best, and that is enough.
Having a seat on a MRT is a blessing, especially when it is a long journey ahead. Yet, being able to offer it up to someone else and make the day for him or her, makes it even more memorable! 4 kids in K2 with two preschool teachers came up onto the train today and immediately another gentleman and I got up to offer them our seats. Somehow the four K2 kids squeezed into the two seats joyfully. Their preschool teachers instructed them to thank us and they did so willingly , in unison. A good day is when we give our best, and that is enough. Every bit counts.

One can never live to the full unless we are kind and generous at heart.
I remember the experience that I had when someone cut my queue at a buffet lunch. It was a very minor issue but at that split second, I felt that I was 'entitled' to be in the queue and that the older lady should go back into the queue just like everyone else. Yes, that thought lasted for a split second which disappeared when I saw that she was a lady perhaps in her 60-70s and she was helping her husband, an elderly man to procure food for lunch. Well, even though she came in from the opposite direction and started to take the dishes, I moved aside so that she can obtain the dishes that she wanted to. Looking back, small things in life speaks volumes and sometimes these small acts could change and bring our community closer together! Life is simple. In all we do, there will be failures and successes. We just have to focus on the successes and work towards that direction.
I remember once, I was brought a patient who had fainted while queuing for food at the hawker stall. She was a young woman in her 20s and two female passer bys who spotted her fainting have reached out to avail their time to help bring her to the nearest clinic. Coincidentally I was stationed there and attended to her immediately. Thankfully, she was brought in promptly with the help of the two good samaritans. Her blood pressure was low and to be corrected. Let us continue to contribute and build a community where we look out for one another. As we focus on these good things, even if there are times where we might feel discouraged, we can still remember these good moments and continue positively. Pleasant surprise on Uber with Pan !
Asked him on his thoughts on why he had this on his car, he replied : "I just want to share with others and make someone else's day ! " Good job Pan! Sharing by Raine
We were travelling from London paddington to Oxford. At London paddington, we needed to walk a distance and climb some stairs from the underground tube station to the train station that will then bring us on a 1.5 hour journey to Oxford. It was during the morning rush hour and the place was congested with human traffic. I was having difficulty managing a luggage bag and another small hand-carry bag. Along the flight of stairs, there were two gentlemen who offered me help with my heavy luggage. One asked "Do you need help with the luggage?". A special note was that he had white hair and I supposed he was in his 50-60s, yet he looks fitter than me! I replied "I can manage, thank you!" or so I believed haha, hoping to be independent! Another said "Can you manage?", and he literally rendered me a helping hand, wishing to take over the heavy luggage from me, helping me up this seemingly long flight of stairs that is so daunting. On hindsight, my bag weighed 17 kg when I checked it in during departure from London. Iappreciated their kind thoughts and thanked them. It was delightful to have came across this stairway of kindness in London :) .Eventually , we reached our destination with nothing less than a warm feeling in our hearts from the strangers who extended a helping hand to tourists in their land. Let us also do likewise to fellow tourists who come to Singapore! We bought a 10 piece chicken bucket for dinner that comes with 4 sides, of which we had 2 corns, 1 coleslaw and 1 pack of fries. After the many days of eating chips in London, we thought we could give it a miss this meal. Just as we were leaving the KFC premise, we overhead a group of teenagers who were chatting happily and going to order more nuggets and chips. I suggested to hubby, "shall we give them the fries?" And he went over to pass them this freshly cooked warm fries. The group of teenagers were elated! One of them said: "Oh wow thank you very much! Oh Kayleigh no need to get the chips, someone gave us a pack!" We smiled and headed back to our hotel! Haha feeling happy from giving and also joyful from their smiles :) Posted by Raine We were on an air flight to London when we heard an announcement over the airplane paging for any doctor who is on board to come forth and render help as there was a patient in need. Lorraine and I have both heard of incidents like this happening to some of our colleagues but never did we imagine ourselves to be caught in such a situation.
Immediately, I stopped the film that I was halfway into and stepped forth to meet up with one of the air stewardess. She took a photo of my practicing licence and proceeded to bring us to the patient in need. We were led by the air stewardess to the back of the plane and ascended the stairs. Finally, we met the patient and thankfully, he was already tended to by another doctor who had arrived earlier. Thereafter when we touched down, we were glad to know from the air stewardess that the patient 'symptoms have improved and will be further tended to by the medical team at the London. It was a warm feeling to know that like minded individuals are around to offer a helping hand when there is a person in need. Step up and use what we have learnt to better the community! All of us can play a part! I do cycling and jogging in my free time. Today, I was the cyclist and met a fellow jogger living in the same block as me right at the gate towards the park connector. What he did brought a touch of warmth to my heart. After exiting from the gate, he held on to the gate for a good 20 seconds as he waited for me to bring my bike up a curb just to reach the gate. I thanked him and wished him a great day ahead! Sometimes simple acts that we do brightens up the day for someone else! We can always hold the gate for someone else who is just around the corner! Early in the morning we went for breakfast at LJJ cafe. There was a small queue starting to build up as it was breakfast peak hour. At the queue serving us was the cashier who was handling both the food as well as the payments. It seemed as though the patrons are gradually getting inpatient.
At that moment, we saw the only other kitchen staff rush over to help her out. It wasn't his scope of work but he did it willingly! By the time it reached our turn to order, we placed an order for a dumpling and he even took the extra effort to look for the particular flavour that Lorraine wanted. That was really nice of him! Thumbs up for this gentleman and this cafe! We can all do our part to go the extra mile to help our colleagues! After a Hömé visit , I was sitting down at the void deck and just waiting for a grabshare car to come. Suddenly, a voice called out to me to ask me : " Can I borrow your phone to call my mum?" . Looking up, I saw that it was a girl perhaps in her secondary school years and she was trying to search for her tuition teacher. She just didn't have a handphone with her.
Without hesitation, I keyed in the number for her and lent her the phone to speak to her mum. Her mum did not pick up and we ended up having to call her Hömé number. Thereafter, she had to make one last call to her tuition teacher who was supposed to meet her here. Just as we were making the last call, her tuition teacher turned up. She thanked me and left. Interesting place for an act of kindness to be shared. No matter where we are, sometimes when there is an opportunity to make someone else happy, seize that opportunity! |
