Laughter is the best medicine. A smile is a great therapy to our souls as well. Came across this bunch of dancing mascots at HK airport during transit and yes it did what it was meant to do, to bring a smile unto the faces of the audience as they dance in their costumes of Little Mr and Ms! Check out the short clip below and I hope it makes your day just as it made mine then! Let's smile! A smile is contagious!

How many of us have been to a foreign country where we are unable to speak in their language? I bet a large number of us! Well, kindness can be shown without words and that is exactly what happened today! My wife and I were in the cold and entered a restaurant. We proceeded to order food but since we were unable to speak the language, we did it via Google translate! After ordering a tofu hotpot, grilled pork and fried rice, the restaurant staff came back to us and we spent a good deal of time conversing via Google translate. Essentially she saw that we have over ordered as the grilled pork alone was in itself sufficient to feed the two of us. She took the extra step no matter the language barrier, to inform us to reconsider our order. In the end we stuck to just rice and the tofu hotpot. When we were served the appetisers and the rice, we were pleasantly surprised when the owner of the restaurant came up handing us a small portion of grilled pork! Wow, this small act of love touched us! We had a fantastic time and this was indeed one of the best meals! After dinner, Lorraine and I went up to the staff of the restaurant to thank them, via google translate, that the food was sumptuous and we had a very good time. The staff voiced back thank you and handed us some coffee sweets before we left. Just as we stepped out of the restaurant, we were met with a heavy rain! And in this cold weather! Oh my, our hotel was probably 800m away! Just as we started to try to brave the rain, the owners of the restaurant had closed up the restaurant as we were the last customers. Without hesitation, he gestured to us to come along in his van and he will give us a lift! We boarded his mini van along with his staff and got a lift back to the hotel! Wow, indeed, kindness can be shown without words! Likewise, let us do our part for the foreigners in our midst! And this was our nice restaurant manager! On the way to work today, something happened that brought a smile unto my face. A middle aged Uncle who was walking in the opposite direction as me clapped his hands as he walked. When he passed by, I heard a loud audible "Good Morning " from him. I smiled and greeted him back. This sets the tone for today and yes, it will be good.
Isn't it sweet to have others wish you a good day ahead ? Came across this over the weekend! Reminds me to forget the hurts that people may have done towards you, and at the same time, focus and remember the little acts of love that others have shown to you!
I was on the mrt today and it was a long journey from the east to the west after a meeting. I was tired physically and my back started to ache. Thankfully, I had a seat. Then, two elderly gentlemen came in to the train near Outram park, packing the train with people. The seats have already been filled. I was one of them as we boarded earlier when there were plenty of seats available.
The gentleman that I saw probably looked as old as my dad (in the sixties going to seventies). I still remember his smile of thanks as I gave my seat up for him. He also said thank you, in Chinese. With a smile, I replied you are welcome. One can imagine should an elderly fall, the repercussions could have been really serious. We wouldn't have wanted our own family to fall, likewise, the same for others. The best part of this, is that the young lady next to me gave up her seat, hence allowing the two elderly gentlemen to rest. Somehow, kindness catches on. Together, we can forge a community filled with acts of love and kindness wherever we go. Give up a seat today to someone more in need than ourselves! A visit to the Kopitiam for breakfast made me sat there thinking as I consumed my breakfast with a leftover plate next to me. a quick glance around saw a few empty tables with some leftover plates on them. At this, some of the other diners walked around and one of them finally settled down onto one of these. I can see his face visibly dissatisfied with the leftovers in front of him as he had his meal. He consumed his meal with a distasteful frown.
Finishing up on my meal, I picked up the tray and what was left in it and headed to the tray return counter. As I passed it on to the elderly attendant, she took it kindly from me and gave a smile and a nod of affirmation. Looking back at the table where I sat and the others around, I believe that each of us can make a difference with just a simple act of returning the tray. What's more, you can make the dining experience for the next person an enjoyable one. Return our plates and utensils today! One day that I was post call (ie a 24hr shift), this taxi driver who picked me up displayed an bubbly and enthusiastic outlook. He started sharing with me how everyone can do their part in the community. Doctors and nurses can go on to save lives with what they do but not just that, everyone can play their role.
In fact, he shared with me that every little thing that we do can be of contribution for the greater good of Singapore. He elaborated that there was this doctor that he used to fetch on a daily basis to and fro hospital and he saw that there were days that this doctor used to crash into the back of the taxi, completely worn out, and he made a resolution, to waive the on call fee for this person as he believed that he can help to do his part in this medical industry. For him, even though he is the sole bread winner for his family, he still decided to allocate part of his earnings back to society. It was a heart warming moment. May each of us find our role in this community, striving for a better place for everyone. My wife and I are travelling in Canada! Today was amazing. As we checked into our stay for the night, we realized that our host has sprained her ankle a few moments earlier. Immediately, we offered her some of the usual anti inflammatory medications as to her as we had extra. She was so glad to receive them and also listened to some of our advice on how to nurse a sprained ankle!
Thereafter, a stranger, Suzie, who happened to be the neighbour of our host, offered to give us a lift to the Butchart gardens as we mentioned it in passing. This was purely out of goodwill even though that meant an extra 20 minutes drive to and fro for her. We deeply appreciate her taking time to show us around. This warms our heart even in this cold weather. Imagine how nice it will be if you were to be and also to meet angels everyday in your life! Lifts are fantastic. Everyone loves to take a lift especially when the nearest staircase is far away. Today I got into a lift because the people who boarded the lift earlier had made an effort to move in. That made the experience complete.
Likewise, let's always move in to the end of the lift, to compact and also create that fantastic experience for someone else. Just like how we would have liked others to do so for us, let's take the step to do so for others as well! |
